Articles

Volume 28 No.1

Volume 27 Nos. 1 and 2
Issues contain articles on spectral response of 4 vegetation types, aboveground biomass of bamboo species, checklist of medicinal species, assessment of metal concentrations in open dumpsites, and mangrove diversity

Volume 26 Nos. 1 and 2
This special issue with the Biodiversity Conservation Society of The Philippines covers different taxa and topics of interests – from plants to marine mammals, species distributions to invasive species. It contains eight full papers aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and contribute to the improved research and conservation capabilities of those working on Philippine biodiversity.

Volume 25 Nos. 1&2
Climate change has taken a huge impact in the research world. Several studies have been conducted to determine its effects in the environment. In the Philippines, while we have lower carbon emissions compared to other developing countries, we are considered to be one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

Volume 24 Nos. 1 & 2
One of the most pressing problems nowadays is global warming brought about by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), in the atmosphere. This issue of Sylvatrop features a study that explored the carbon sequestration potential of Jatropha curcas. Two studies dealt with vulnerability assessment on the different watershed in the Philippines and their vulnerability to various hazards and risk factors. The last study is a water pricing study that aims to determine the value of water supply as input to the management of the Caniaw Watershed in Ilocos Sur.

Volume 23 Nos. 1 & 2
One of the studies aimed to establish trends of levels of acidity (pH), conductivity (EC), and concentrations of anions (SO4 2-, NO3-, Cl-) and cations (NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) in rainwater on urban and rural acid deposition monitoring sites in the Philippines. The results of the study proved to be significant in establishing local acid deposition baseline data to prove or disprove acid deposition occurs in the Philippines and to provide useful inputs for decision-making aimed at preventing or reducing adverse impacts of acid deposition.

Volume 22 Nos. 1 & 2
This issue of Sylvatrop contains studies affecting the forests in the Philippines. One of the articles is the ERDB-funded study to assess the aboveground biomass and carbon stock assessment of forest plantations in Mindanao. There was also a study on the assessment of LiDAR technology for base mapping application in the Philippines. The other studies tackled issues and trends in timber and the stakeholder's perception about the Community Based Forest Management Project.

Volume 21 Nos. 1 & 2
Contains articles on plant diversity, landscape approach to water quality assessment and river classification, and floristic composition and structure of a lowland evergreen rainforest in the Philippines. Two of the articles were about seed technology and pre-treatments relating to germination of molave.

Volume 20 Nos. 1 & 2
This Special issue with the Land Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. features studies pertaining to land ownership, land management , land valuation, and case studies from LAMP pilot communities.

Volume 19 Nos. 1 & 2
Sylvatrop Vol. 19 contains five articles that discuss community vulnerability, tree species composition and physiognomy, seed health testing, and comparison of water quality indices. The front cover illustrates one of the studies that focused on the survey of marine turtle nesting sites in the Philippines.
