Climate change has taken a huge impact in the research world. Several studies have been conducted to determine its effects in the environment. In the Philippines, while we have lower carbon emissions compared to other developing countries, we are considered to be one of the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

One of the most pressing problems nowadays is global warming brought about by the increasing levels of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), in the atmosphere. This issue of Sylvatrop features a study that explored the carbon sequestration potential of Jatropha curcas. Two studies dealt with vulnerability assessment on the different watershed in the Philippines and their vulnerability to various hazards and risk factors. The last study is a water pricing study that aims to determine the value of water supply as input to the management of the Caniaw Watershed in Ilocos Sur.

One of the studies aimed to establish trends of levels of acidity (pH), conductivity (EC), and concentrations of anions (SO4 2-, NO3-, Cl-) and cations (NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) in rainwater on urban and rural acid deposition monitoring sites in the Philippines. The results of the study proved to be significant in establishing local acid deposition baseline data to prove or disprove acid deposition occurs in the Philippines and to provide useful inputs for decision-making aimed at preventing or reducing adverse impacts of acid deposition.

This issue of Sylvatrop contains studies affecting the forests in the Philippines. One of the articles is the ERDB-funded study to assess the aboveground biomass and carbon stock assessment of forest plantations in Mindanao. There was also a study on the assessment of LiDAR technology for base mapping application in the Philippines. The other studies tackled issues and trends in timber and the stakeholder's perception about the Community Based Forest Management Project.

Contains articles on plant diversity, landscape approach to water quality assessment and river classification, and floristic composition and structure of a lowland evergreen rainforest in the Philippines. Two of the articles were about seed technology and pre-treatments relating to germination of molave.

The front cover illustrates one of the studies that focused on the survey of marine turtle nesting sites in the Philippines.
